About Anton Wohlgemuth

I’m Anton Wohlgemuth - Co-Founder and CTO of Silana, a deep tech robotics company developing the world’s first robotic sewing systems for soft material handling and apparel production.
At Silana, we’re tackling one of the most complex, underexplored challenges in automation: giving robots the ability to grip, manipulate, and stitch flexible fabrics with precision, repeatability, and speed.
My work sits at the intersection of robotic control, computer vision, and systems engineering - focused on turning early-stage research into industrial-grade automation that performs reliably in the chaos of the real world.
From gripping unpredictable fabrics to integrating multi-modal sensor feedback and fine-tuning real-time motion control, I design systems that align hardware, perception, and logic - all the way from lab prototype to factory deployment.
My Background
Systems Engineering – Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)
Data Science – Vienna University of Technology (TU Wien)
Business & Economics – Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU Wien)
Formerly at Siemens, TDK, Deutsche Bank, and UniCredit
Featured in Forbes 30 Under 30, TechCrunch, and other international media
Based in New York City, originally from Austria
I’ve been building robotic systems since my teenage years - starting with an automated clay-cutting robot at 17 - and have since led multidisciplinary teams across hardware, software, and machine intelligence.
What I Write About
This blog is where I share insights from building deep tech systems and leading a robotics company from the ground up.
Topics I explore include:
Engineering real-world robotic systems
Computer vision for soft material manipulation
Lessons learned at the intersection of hardware and AI
Turning R&D into deployable industrial products
My personal journey building Silana
Whether you’re building in robotics, deep tech, or working on something that hasn’t been done before — I hope this blog gives you something useful, or at least something to think about.
